"A MIST-ICAL ENCOUNTER"
20x30 giclee canvas print
Each year, between July and October, spectacular Orca visit the waters of northern Vancouver Island. There are close to 300 members of the fish-eating orcas, known as the “Northern Residents” and they are often in the area in pursuit of salmon.
This painting depicts an orca pod travelling into Blackney Passage, just past the OrcaLab. This research lab is located on Hanson Island and it is here that researchers and observers identify and record all orcas in the surrounding waters. Hydrophones, as well as surface and underwater cameras, have been placed in the nearby water passages, allowing online viewers from around the world the opportunity to listen and view the passing orca pods. Be sure to visit their website at http://www.orca-live.net.
Northern Vancouver Island also has several whale watching companies in the area that offer different viewing opportunities and extraordinary experiences.
