"Raft Cove Plovers"

Raft Cove is a beautiful isolated beach on the West Coast and it is well worth the moderate 40 minute hike. The Cove offers visitors spectacular views of a rugged west coast beach environment. The park’s exposure and impressive waves make it a great place for storm watching.

Semi-palmated Plovers are small shorebirds with partially webbed feet. When the tide is high, they snooze, waiting for the waters to expose the wet sand. Then they run around looking for crustaceans and worms, all the while avoiding the lapping waves.
