"THE WAVE WARRIORS"

RAFT COVE, NORTHWEST VANCOUVER ISLAND

Raft Cove Provincial Park, located on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, contains a beautiful, rugged, and secluded beach. Access to this beach requires a moderate 40 minute hike which will take you along a well marked, old growth coastal forest trail that is lined with Western Red Cedar, Hemlock, and Sitka Spruce. You will eventually be rewarded with a view of the spectacular, long sandy beach and ocean surf. The park’s exposure and impressive waves make it a great place for surfers and beachcombers.

Double-crested Cormorants swim low in the water with just their neck and head visible. They can dive to a depth of up to 7.5 m and remain underwater for up to 70 seconds. After diving for their prey of fish, they can be seen perched upright on the rocks with their wings outstretched to allow them to dry, since they are not fully waterproof.
